SOUTH WEST LONDON

Clapham | London

The renovation of this Grade 2 Listed Victorian home was approached through a careful blend of new elements with both contemporary and traditional qualities while preserving, restoring and enhancing the heritage of the original structure, spaces and details.

  • The design centred around the use of natural materials and finishes throughout. These including fluted solid oak doors, reclaimed timber and tiled flooring, unlacquered brass fittings, marble, stone, and steel doors. All these materials and elements work together, resulting in a rich, textured ensemble.

A key objective was to revive the house’s original glory, ensuring that every detail, from the cornices to the window frames worked together with the introduction of new features, giving the sense of modernity, while adding another layer of time to the house. Here we are particularly pleased with the introduction of tiles reclaimed from a farmhouse built in 1900 in Andalucia, Spain.

The result is an enduring home that feels both lived-in and sophisticated, with a seamless blend of old and new, earthy and neutral in a welcoming, functional series of spaces. The overall effect is one of understated elegance, where every detail, whether original or new, contributes to a harmonious, timeless whole.
